Ignition Control Modules
Perhaps the toughest environment for an ignition system is a lean-burn turbocharged engine, such as on today’s advanced heavy-duty on-highway natural gas engines.
High boost pressures combined with very lean fuel-air mixtures often push breakdown voltages above 50kV. These high breakdown voltages strain secondary wiring and components. The spark will jump across the point of least resistance, so all components and connections must be kept in good working condition.
EControls has developed both inductive and capacitive-discharge ignition systems, but recommends an inductive ignition for lean-burn engines due to the longer spark duration.
Other features include:
- Shorted-coil protection
- Extreme EMC resistance
- Form / fit / function compatibility
