Materials Application

The ECI materials application facility is used for applying conformal coating, thermal grease, adhesive and a two-part encapsulant potting. Product PCBs are sprayed with a .020 inch thick film of automotive grade conformal coating to protect components from moisture damage. All ECI designs utilize thermal grease to assist heatsink thermal dissipation characteristics. The Production Department uses a specialized robotic (X-Y-Z axis) machine to apply conformal coating, thermal grease, and adhesive. For every product, a custom program is designed and implemented to ensure that the materials applied are distributed consistently and within specified amounts. Open-faced products are sealed with a two-part encapsulant potting material that ensures PCB and mechanical shock protection. A double-piston potting machine is used to accurately dispense a polyurethane curing agent and a polyurethane filler/hardener. Automotive adhesives or RTVs are applied systematically on many products requiring extreme "water intrusion" specifications. All materials utilized in the ECI Production Department meet automotive grade design requirements for "under-hood" applications.
