Flow Bench

A flow laboratory is used to develop, test, evaluate, and calibrate air flow and fuel metering products. EControls routinely tests liquid fuel injectors, gaseous fuel injectors, carburetors, cylinder heads, intake manifolds, and exhaust manifolds during product development and for clients on a specific need basis. As part of our comprehensive service to clients, we perform product comparison testing to determine the preferred or best products to run with our engine management system.

For calibration of digital (pulse-width-modulated) injectors, EControls has developed a mass balance system for both liquid and gaseous fuels. This system has proven to be extremely accurate and repeatable. Overall accuracy is determined solely by the accuracy of the scale, which is 0.10%, and repeatability is better than 0.4% total, considering all variables. Since the system measures mass directly, the need to measure pressure and temperature to calculate mass flow is eliminated.

Air flow testing of carburetors, cylinder heads, and manifolds is performed on a Superflow 600 flow bench. The engine can also be instrumented and used to measure fuel flow and air flow rates for specific component testing. The engine itself is often the best bench test to simulate real-world conditions.
