EControls Electronic Hardware Design

EControls designs and qualifies its own hardened electronic engine control hardware. As those in the heavy-duty and light-duty on-highway market know, this is not a typical electronic design exercise. EControls’ internal electrical qualification standards meet or exceed almost every customer’s standards in this market and meet or exceed many military standards.

Durable, reliable, rock-solid electronic hardware designed and maintained in-house is a core technology at EControls — and our customers can attest to the value of this level of reliability in the marketplace.

In addition to reliability, EControls’ electronic hardware is also leading edge in terms of features and functionality. Because our hardware is designed, qualified, and tested in-house on a flexible manufacturing line, EControls can maintain hardware design flexibility. As new feature requirements arise or new technologies become ready for production, EControls can react and support design changes to give our customers a continuously evolving competitive edge.

No other company in the world brings together all of the following advantages in terms of electronic hardware design like EControls:
  • In-house design and support
  • Extreme electrical qualification requirements (200 V/m, 120 V load-dump, …)
  • Extreme environmental qualification requirements (on-engine mounting, …)
  • In-house material processing and component control
  • Flexible manufacturing to support design upgrades and new products
  • Fast reaction to new requirements at low or no engineering costs to customers
  • Low cost and highly targeted products for each customer
EControls’ electronic hardware includes all of the latest design features, and always has more flexibility built-in than customer requirements specify. The following is a short list of many of the features in our engine control systems:
  • 32-bit high-speed microprocessors with DSP (digital signal processing) functionality
  • Field reprogrammability utilizing flash memory
  • Reconfigurable adaptive speed input circuits for magnetic pickups, Hall effect sensors, …
  • Fully-protected high-current drive-by-wire electronic throttle control interfaces with redundant failure mode management
  • Fully-protected digital peak-and-hold fuel injector drivers — including low and high-voltage capability for port, throttle-body, or diesel injectors
  • Proprietary digital stoichiometric and wide-range oxygen sensor (EGO and UEGO) interfaces that monitor sensor integrity, accuracy, and extend sensor life
  • Dual digital knock sensor interfaces
  • Integrated inductive or capacitive-discharge spark coil driver technology
  • Spark-plug based ion feedback circuitry interface for misfire and knock detection
  • Simultaneous multiple network interfaces — CAN, J1708 / RS-485, RS-232, …
Our electronic hardware reflects our commitment to giving our customers a competitive advantage in the market place and exceeding their customer’s expectations.
