Cold / Hot Start Testing

Excellent cold and hot start performance is imperative for today’s electronic engines. To evaluate and calibrate engine cold start and warm-up characteristics, EControls uses a triple-compartment temperature control chamber. The chamber is large enough to accomodate full-vehicle light-industrial equipment such as a forklift truck or a 60’ boom lift. Temperatures as low as –30°C are possible. Crank times, overall start quality, and cold tip-in quality are evaluated, documented, and calibrated in the chamber.

Full-vehicle hot start performance can also be evaluated in the same chamber with the temperature control system in heating mode. Elevated intake air temperature testing can also be accomodated in the engine dynamometer cells using a portable intake air heating system to evaluate and calibrate for detonation (knock) sensitivity.
